Senior Research Associate

Shanette Porter is Co-Director of the Equitable Learning and Development Group and Senior Research Associate at the University of Chicago Consortium. Prior to this role, she was the Director of Research and Senior Fellow at Student Experience Research Network (SERN), where she led SERN’s research program development. Her research and partnerships have focused on understanding the role of structural factors in shaping social, emotional, and motivational experiences—particularly during key transitions along the life trajectory. This work sits at the intersections of practical measurement, data use, and education policy. Shanette has directed several fellowships, most recently the SERN Midcareer Fellows Program, and sits on the board of several organizations and initiatives. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University’s Institute for Policy Research and the Department of Psychology, and earned a PhD in social and personality psychology from Cornell University, and a BA in psychology from Yale University.
