Dale Ray

Dale Ray coordinates the Foundations Year in the elementary teacher preparation program of the University of Chicago Urban Teacher Education Program (UChicago UTEP). She works with all UChicago UTEP staff to ensure coherence and alignment of the Foundations Year strands, as well as integration with the secondary teacher preparation program. Ray is also the lead instructor and coordinator of the elementary tutoring strand, providing workshops to introduce central concepts and assessment strategies in a balanced literacy framework. She is also a member of the Soul Strand instructional team, and co-teaches the reading methods course for elementary candidates in their first year.

Prior to her work with UEI, Ray taught in Chicago public and charter schools for twenty-four years. Ray received her M.Ed. in the teaching of language arts from Northeastern Illinois University. She holds a B.A. in English language and literature from the University of Chicago.
